With the fate of two Indian Premier League (IPL) teams, including Rajasthan Royal and Chennai Supper King, hanging in fire, the core group of Board of Cricket Control of India’s (BCCI) will take a final call on its ban in the month end.
“The report has been finalised and the core group will meet on August 19. On August 28, the report will be kept before the working committee,” said BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.
“Controversies are everywhere but the fact is that IPL is the most popular cricket tournament, where young players get an opportunity to play with great players of the world and economy of the country is also strengthened,” he said, adding that the BCCI had attempted to redress all weaknesses after a discussion with stakeholders in a short span of time.
“The core group was given only six-week time on July 20 to submit the report,” said Anurag.
The report and recommendations of the IPL Working Group will be discussed in the BCCI Working Committee meeting to be held in Kolkata on August 28.
Meanwhile, Justice RM Lodha Committee's had given its recommendations and roadmap for next year's IPL.
The IPL Working Group, headed by Rajiv Shukla, comprises BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly as its members, along with board's legal adviser UN Banerjee.
